"Absolutely life changing!" That was my first thought about 10 years ago upon visiting a family in Guatemala for the second time. I was then working with an international NGO called
CAUSE Canada, and was visiting some communities that we would be working with to install rain water catchment systems that would bring water to each of the households in the community. The first time I went, I had met a family in the community and the mother had to walk 2 hours each direction in order to transport water for the family use. That's a minimum of 4 hours walking per day just to get however much water she could carry! The second time I visited I was able to inspect the water system for the family's community and see the smile on the mother's face when she was able to get water right outside her door. This one development meant better health for her family and a minimum 4 hours per day available for her to do things that would earn income for her family. Yes, life changing!
The above memory was brought to mind when I saw the following short award winning video by college student, Sean Cruse. The issue of water, and how we see it so differently in the developed world compared to those in developing countries, was captured remarkably well. It really gets you thinking about . . . and appreciating . . . water.
Hey!! I'm That Poverty Guy . . . let's make a world of difference together.
